Class: 1Art – 1.2
Time: 11:55 –
13:15 (double period)
Date: 5/10/18
School: Coláiste Choilm
Mentor: Mary O’ Mahony
The class started with the roll call. The room was
rearranged from the last time the pupils were there and they were giddy in
response. My co-operating teacher was delayed so I briefly lead the class. I opened
the class up questions to the class. What is cross contour? What do we learn
from it? How does it benefit our drawings? I felt that this helped to gain
their attention. It’s a Friday, their minds are most likely on the weekend.
These questions regained their attention. Before the class myself and the
co-operation teacher had been planning the next couple of classes, after I had
asked the questions to the pupils I was unsure how to proceed. The co-operation
teacher stepped in and took charge. I felt I should have lead more. I need to
take charge more and be more self-assured. The class ran smoothly, they were
working on tone and form. They enthusiastic, but I could see that when the
co-operating teacher was speaking about the different pencils and how they could
be used, that some pupils were losing interest. I think this was because they
weren’t actually using the pencils and only listening. This might be something
to bear in mind. That maybe have pupils are asked to use the pencil, and then
ask them what they notice when using said pencils. It would have them engaged and
have them learning while doing, using their own words, they learn better.
