This week was a little easier than last week. I have taken to conducting class on Google Hangouts with my first years, this has helped to negate any problems they have had with the work and it also gave me a better understanding of how to much work to give them so they are not overwhelmed.
Google Hangouts seems to work best with small groups. I attempted to initiate this with my second year group, however the video lagged, audio failed randomly, so it was decided to stick to
Google Classroom instead. This work very well and this systems allows me to post my own examples of the work I set them as well as PowerPoints to do with the subject matter. This same approach is being used for my Fourth and Fifth Years as well.
This weeks goal was to return to what we were doing before we were set into quarantine, making allowances for materials at hand. The making of origami and drawing the finished piece with as much tonal range as possible was the focus of the second years. this enabled them to test their sculptural skills as well as their observation skills
First years engaged in an other Google Hangouts lesson where we discussed texture. Without clay to give a good demonstration of the creating of texture it was difficult however they worked well by talking rubbings of coins and other textures.Fourth years also engaged with making origami forms but they were tasked into creating a one photo narrative with them. this enables students who may fear the word "Creative" as discussed in the previous reflection, and allow them to create a work of art, through a media they are so familiar with, photography.
Through online lectures in the Collaborative seminar the Effective School was discussed and how the school can run effectively in all aspects of school life i.e. cooperation between departments, SEN department etc. While that can't be fully discussed in the current state of quarantine and social distancing, the response by the teachers, and the cooperation between teachers, students and parents highlights the importance of working together and communication. It's a credit to how people have responded in this crisis and it shows the resilience of people in the midst of this pandemic.
